About handheld, it’s not only the screen being 120Hz. It’s also the VRR support. Even if the game drops a couple frames in handheld, you won’t notice it as there will be no stutter

I play apex legends since 2020. I’m a huge fan of the game. I mainly play on PlayStation, but I always wanted the game on my switch. I was so happy when it finally came to switch plus a crossplay progression. But it ran terrible. I was so happy with the switch 2 but the game still ran terribly. I begged for a switch 2 upgrade and I was so excited when they announced it. I have been playing all week on the switch and I’m very impressed. It looks and runs so good! I can barely see the difference between switch 2 and PS5. It’s beyond my expectations

I’m actually testing out Apex Legends on Switch 2 right now. Taking a break to type this. I have to agree with much presented here. The Switch version is hot garbage IMO, it should have never been released. The Switch 2 version is what the game was meant to be. I’m… a bit torn with mouse controls though. On the one hand, it’s very fast and smooth once you get used to it. But on the other hand, using the Joy-Con as a mouse isn’t the most comfortable way to play. I tried using a proper mouse but it didn’t work. Gyro aiming is good, but Joy-Con mouse is faster. I’m still testing but so far, Apex Legends on Switch 2 is the way to play if you want to go portable but don’t own a portable PC. Also, for the love of gaming, turn OFF cross play if you’re learning how to play. Stay on the Switch 2 reservation otherwise quick death will be certain playing with other platforms.

I’ve been playing Apex Legends on switch for almost 2 years now and yes gyro sucks. I mainly play high sensitivity claw grip on external controller. And yes, joy-cons is bad for apex and I highly suggest not using it to reduce joy-con drift.

MASSIVE improvement. 60fps and much clearer and crisper and mouse control to boot. I will still stick with my pc of course but this is very very nice and I think Apex is a fantastic game.

having tried apex since yesterday… i honestly dont understand why cyberpunk 2077 and no mans sky would not also run at 60 fps…. apex looks just as intense with all the details and it runs so smooth. but no mans sky runs at 40 fps.. :/ seriously.. i dunno what they did wrong but they need to put the devs of apex on all the other switch 2 games lol… would be awesome.

I love my Steam Deck and ROG Ally but the Switch 2 has really impressed me so far. One of my favorite features is the efficiency. The combo of efficiency and the smaller battery means I can use a 20,000mAh battery bank and fully recharge it like 10 or more times vs handheld PCs charging 2-2.5 times. So Cyberpunk 2077 could get 20+ hours of gameplay vs ~4-6 hours from handheld PCs, so I’m definitely taking the Switch 2 for my 6+ hour flight to El Salvador.

I play on PC, so i can’t really compare it to what i expect from apex, but it is far better than it was on the switch 1 in my testing. I saw some frame drops and detail at a distance isn’t great, but it’s totally playable now.

I’ll definitely be getting back into it myself. I will get better with the mousecon for sure!

Launched on PS4 in 2019 (a year before the original switch version) and despite having the ability to do gyro aim (motion sensor aim, motion controls, etc) it’s never been a thing on PS4 and now with the PS5 version of this game it too does NOT have gyro aim despite being able to do it

Hell I don’t even think the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox series consoles allow for mnk

Great review as always! They did a really good job getting this to look good and still run solid 60fps. The file size is the only real deterrent here but I’d only consider playing casual modes on there. At least it can finally compete with the rest of the consoles now.
I also play on PC but it’d be cool to run some matches together!

Don’t care about this game but when footage changed form Switch 1 version to Switch 2 version it was mind blowing.

Apex is trash, battle royale is a horrible game type.

The difference is night and day unsurprisingly, but I think it’s crazy the Switch 1 somehow eventually managed to run this game at 30fps albeit still quite hindered. The current gen workarounds for games ported to Switch 1 needs to be researched!

I geniuenly tried it yesterday and actually want to play on Switch more than PC rn. The motion controls work so well. The recoil is so great to control with it. Add on to that that it runs basically flawlessly and smooth. Sure more than 1080p docked would’ve been nice, but in Handheld it’s phenomenal. They do need to tune down the rumble tho. I think they used the values from the Switch 1 version but those tend to make the Joy Cons turn it off after a while since it’s too much for HD Rumble 2. Also a thing I hated about the Switch 1 version that still remains in the Switch 2 version: the UI scaling on Handheld. I do respect them for making it more visible on the smaller screen, but it’s so big it gets annyoing sometimes. I wish we just had an option to use the TV scaling aswell

Apex removing linux support made me have to resort to apex on switch… it was fun but man that 30 fps (more like sub 30fps in actual games) really made it feel horrible.
Personally i do love these “impossible ports” that pushes consoles beyond their limits, but for a competetive shooter, it falls short. I still like that it exists tho. Maybe for the casual newbie it will give them an entry into apex which leads them to get a better console or pc to play apex.

But now that the switch 2 version is out, i might wanna grab a s2. But i really want oled so im holding out a bit longer.

Switch 2 is an incredible little powerhouse for what it is. This is very impressive. Yes it’s not a PS5 or anything but when you realize it’s a thin small tablet sized handheld putting out these kind of performance it really makes you appreciate it and how it also runs really quiet.

It’s so cool we basically have a portable PS4 Pro. Might not be impressive by home console standards but for handheld this is really amazing for $450. With Nintendo’s art direction, the next generation of Mario and Zelda games will look incredible. I hope we get more first party ports and updates to older ports.

Finally. Fortnitte was actually a surprise to play, im glad I can noe get to one real battle royale. Still hoping for warzone, and fiestorm but this will do as f2p. OW2 may also still come, so finally the console gets the updates it deserves 🙂

Ive been playing this on pc w/ gyro controls w/ switch pro controller since 2020. Playing THIS feels identical to that but now Im playing on the real thing lol

if this processor in switch 2 scores about 3000-4000 points in geekbench, it means that my poco f3 should also easily give out 60 fps because it has a 3363 result. but with worse graphics, somewhere at the level of switch 1. and the gpu in 870 compared to the same 8 gen 2 is 3 times weaker and 5 times weaker than 8 elite

After that massive download took me an hr to get through the EA sign in. After that I tried the tutorial but it was so laggy and disconnected me a couple times. Why on earth does it need an online connection to do the tutorial/firing range?

I’m horrible at battle royals in general, but i’ve downloaded it last night, and even though i got demolished, it’s really fun. It looks really good, and i love the performance. Not sure why people are lying online and saying there are performance dips, i haven’t encountered one yet. Think imma keep it for a while and see if i can unlock some other legends and maybe even win a game one day lol

One thing I really hate is the Rumble. It’s wayyyy too strong and it even shakes the camera if you’re using gyro because of how strong it is. It makes it impossible to aim sometimes which is a shame.
There needs to be a rumble strength slider in apex for all consoles

Do not use a mouse period no matter what you are on in this game. Controller aim assist dominates so as long as you don’t use a mouse you are good.

Crazy fact about me:
I quit playing Apex Legends since Season 13 because the only system I can play that game is on Switch, I didn’t own a PS4|5, Xbox One/Series X|S, or PC during that season in 2022.
The reason I quit playing Apex on Switch is due to lagging connections, game crashes & freezes, horrible potato graphics, and lower than 30FPS.

And here I am now, this year, 2025, I can now finally play the game with better stabilizations on my PS5, Switch 2, and my gaming laptop for Season 26. ^^

That 120 fps hasn’t been put to use in any game so far lmao😭 (excluding the welcome tour game)

I have thousands of hours on the Series X version, and I find this Switch 2 version to be perfectly playable and enjoyable. I wish there was an option to move buttons around as I fumbled with going from Xbox controller to Pro Controller. For running on a tablet, it looks great! I’ll play the S2 version for casual and SX for ranked lol.

Despite I’m not going to download Apex Legends. Is nice to have a Switch 2 port for the people that do play it.

Been waiting for the Switch 2 version of Apex as I’ve put over 650 hour on the original Switch version. It’s like a night and day difference so I’m gonna put a ton more hours in!
